Dawkins has an incredible story of perseverance and toughness. His journey to where he is today has taken many turns and once you know and understand those factors it helps put into perspective his abilities as an NFL Draft Prospect.
He played running back and linebacker during Pop-Warner football winning MVP of the league while playing for the West Charlotte Redskins. His quickness and athleticism were apparent then and under normal circumstances he likely would have been able to blossom much earlier.
Watch Sink or Swim
An undersized boundary type defensive back with a good short-area burst, Dawkins brings a very high football IQ to the game. He flashes play-making ability when given the opportunity. Shows agility and vision and looks natural at the position.
Blessed with God given speed (4.3 on a good day) he will immediately attract the attention of NFL Scouts. A bit undersized but surprisingly willing hitter and not afraid of contact.
Dawkins has those good quick twitch traits and reacts quickly, popping out of his breaks. Good fluid back pedal, footwork and agility. A more consistent routine in coverage is needed especially faces a higher-quality opponent moving forward.
Athletic enough to warrant a contract to play professional football. It may not be in the National Football League, but with the emergence of additional leagues plus the CFL, Dawkins can definitely advance his craft with current film to pass along to the ever-watching NFL eye.
