Personal: Full name is Jimmy Roger Moreland Jr.… Son of Jimmy Sr. and Yvonne Moreland… Majoring in sport recreation and management.
A crafty defensive back who knows how to bait the opposing quarterback into turnovers. Leaves JMU as the school’s all-time leader in interceptions (18), coinciding with making an impact as a true freshman. Major D1 offers were held from Moreland leaving Royal Palm Beach High School in Florida, due to his smallish frame.
Moreland’s frame has grown as well as will skills of a potential 2019 NFL Draft Prospect. A natural at the position who excels win the simple nuances of the position. His change of direction and fluid hips along with speed allow him to compliment all the necessary tasks.
Despite his success at the collegiate level, he’ll need to prove to scouts that his play will be able to match that of opposing receivers in the National Football League, coming from the Colonial Athletic Association. It is a fine conference, but none the less teams flock to the big schools when immediately evaluating talent.
Size is still not his biggest asset, but he has proven to be durable and his exceptional ability to put the ball in the endzone will cause a positive vibe moving forward. Had a pick-six in three straight games against Robert Morris (Sept. 13), William & Mary (Sept. 22) and at Richmond (Sept. 29). He was also named the CAA Defensive Player of the Year.
Terrence McGee, Tyrone Poole and Robert Alford come to mind when evaluating the James Madison standout.
