Leaving high school Hill’s academic grades hurt him. He had offers from Hawaii, Syracuse, Arizona State, Auburn, Kansas, Oregon State, Utah, Utah State and Nebraska. Eventually had to go the JUCO route and ended up in Arizona playing the Mesa Thunderbirds.
Fantastic size (6-foot-3 and 225lbs.) and range. Can fly to the ball and closes fast. Plays the ball well in front of him. Has some good range over the top. Good work ethic. Spent some time at cornerback and excels at safety. Gears down to change direction. Invited to Indianapolis Colts rookie camp.
Speaks volumes on his ability to get invite to Colts camp from tiny Mesa Community College. “We like you,” Hill was told by the staff at Colts camp but the numbers game of roster availability didn’t fall his way.
His combination of size and ability make him a interesting prospect at linebacker in the CFL as well. In comparison to some of the top CFL linebackers he stacks up nicely. For example Winnipeg Blue Bombers Khalil Bass and Edmonton Eskimos Dexter McCoil are nearly identical in size. Hill has the ability to cover and find the ball.
