Bjoern Werner

Bjoern Werner led the Seminoles in quarterback hurries last season (8) and was second on the team with seven sacks behind Brandon Jenkins. Werner who was born in Berlin, Germany came across the pond as an exchange student who played two years of high school football. Impassioned defensive end with vigorous work ethic with NFL speed and strength NFL scouts desire. Named to the Lott Impact Trophy watch list, Werner could really help himself if all the pieces fall into place. If you like physical tough-guy with non-stop motor, you found you man.

Sam Montgomery

Sam Montgomery is the team’s returning sack leader from last season with nine and looks to build on his breakout sophomore season in 2011. Playing along side Barkevious Mingo who finished second with eight sacks the Tigers have a lethal pair to wreak havoc on opposing quarterbacks. Under Les Miles LSU has had tremendous success producing NFL defensive lineman with eight former Tigers have been drafted with three going in the first round since 2008. Montgomery is a speed-rusher who added close to 15-20 pounds since last August and is poised for a great year on the bayou.

Alex Okafor

Alex Okafor and teammate Jackson Jeffcoat are primed for a huge season just like our number one ranked Sam Montgomery and his number outside linebacker Barkevious Mingo on the College2Pro.com draft board. Ironic all four have a little tweener in them with their size ratio at the next level. Okafor has the ingenuity to create and be very disruptive in the opposing teams backfield with seven sacks, seven tackles-for-loss and 17 quarterback hurries (second on team). Can play with hand in the dirt or standing up off the edge and could be used as outside linebacker in a 3-4 system. Quick note below most of the DE/OLB prospects from Texas fit same mold as both Okafor and Jeffcoat meaning the list below of last five drafted Longhorns at the position is a bit of a mix of tweener DE/OLB.

Last 5 Drafted Michigan St. D-Tackles

William Gholston

NFL bloodlines with cousin Vernon Gholston being first round pick of New York Jets, which may hurt or help depending on one’s opinion.  Compared to most of the top prospects in this up-coming draft class Gholston is like a behemoth compare to the rest at 6’6 and 279-pounds he truly is frightening to offensive coordinators and awe-inspiring to defensive coordinators. Gholston finished fifth on the team with 70 tackles and first for the Spartans last season with 11 tackles-for-loss to go along with five quarterback sacks in 2011. If he picks up where he left off last season and I predicting he will he’ll be a first round pick. Physical ability allows him to use athleticism as well as power to disrupt offenses. Likely to go higher than 2012 second round pick Jerel Worthy but not as high as Bubba Smith who went number one overall back in 1967.

Margus Hunt

Crazy to think that 2009 was the first year of organized football for Margus Hunt who was born in Estonia which is roughly about 600 miles from Moscow – Geography lesson one completed. Discus and shot put is what brought the eventual defensive end to SMU and now he is poised for a stand out season in 2012. As a walk on freshman he was one blocked kick away (seven) from breaking NCAA record. Reminds me of former Baylor’s Canadian born offensive lineman Danny Watkins who was fireman turned into future first round pick. Hunt is raw and sometimes this term is used loosely, but he is super athletic with size/speed ratio where teams will be awed.
