Family oriented safety who relishes in the rolling downfield to secure the tackle, Evans originally was recruited simply as an athlete when he arrived on the Mississippi State campus in 2012. He landed at in Conference USA his final year of football at Middle Tennessee State.
Evans played in 39 games (three starts) for MSU over the past three seasons. During his time with the Bulldogs, he totaled 86 tackles, five passes defended and one forced fumble.
The 5-foot-10, 207-pound Evans is a sure tackler who excels at the line of scrimmage. He is also eager to showcase his back end abilities. His physical style can mislead the fast that his cover skills as a safety go relatively unnoticed.
Instinctive and aware, Evans plays smart and takes good angles to the ball. Reacts quickly and is efficient out of his breaks in zone coverage. Priority free agent type prospect who will need to show up big at his Pro Day. He has gravitated to fine tuning the forgotten art of tackling. Takes pride and securing the ball carrier and could provide solid special teams role. Has the size, smarts and ability, but questions will need to be answered on recovering speed and how fluid he can transition his hips in coverage.
