PERSONAL: John Charles Callinan … graduated with a degree in finance and marketing … currently enrolled in graduate school … recipient of the Orrie T. Scarminach ’71 Memorial Athletic Scholarship Fund … Charlie, his younger sisters, Ellie and Audrey, and younger brother, Stuart, are the children of Christy and John Callinan.
Callinan possesses very good athletic ability and leadership. He was the recipient of the (Tom) Scanlan Award, the highest honor given to a Boston College senior and Callinan was also voted a team captain. Those superior characteristics eventually lead NFL Scouts to his game film and athleticism.
His frame of 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds has brought ‘hybrid’ to the drafting evaluation when placing Callinan at the next level. His Pro Day results in the 20 yard short shuttle (4.19) and 3-cone (7.01) ranked second and fourth respectfully compared to 2018 NFL Combine tight end invitees.
One must remember that Boston College is a run first offense, hindering large statistics for Callinan, but the tape reveals sure handed target, displaying good body control to make acrobatic catches. He does a good job getting in and out of his cuts.
Callinan is not a great base blocker and is limited but willing in playing in the trenches. NFL teams eyeing a in-line tight end option will pass on him while teams aiming to add another offensive weapon via the passing game will be eager to bring him aboard. He has the size and football IQ to even garner attention at linebacker due to his size and ability.
A developmental prospect that has legit upside to surprise.
