      1.Greedy Williams, LSU, Soph 6’1 182
Last Five Secondary Players Drafted in Last Five Years
2018 – Donte Jackson 2nd
2017 – Jamal Adams 1st
2017 – Tre’Davious White 1st
2016 – Rashaed Robinson 4th
2016 – Jalen Mills 7th
What To Know
Some schools simply know how to make a defensive back prepared and well rounded to play in the National Football League. Williams has been my top defensive back all year and no reason to switch gears so close to the NFL Draft. He does not excel one particular area but the overall when combining all his traits, you’ll end up finding a very talented defensive back.

  • Byron Murphy, Washington, Soph, 5’11 182

Last Five Secondary Players Drafted in Last Five Years
2017 – Budda Baker 2nd
2017 – Kevin King 2nd
2017 – Sidney Jones 2nd
2015 – Marcus Peters 1st
2013 – Desmond Trufant
What To Know
Washington has a history of placing quality secondary players into the National Football League. Just like buying a Cadillac who know you are getting a fantastic automobile, which is how I look at Huskies prospects at the position. The brand has proven to endure, and Murphy is the next up to carry on the tradition over recent years. Tremendous instincts and technique make him just a tad better than the rest. His fluidness and quickness come natural and simply looks the part.

  • Trayon Mullen, Clemson, Jr, 6’1 195

Last Five Secondary Players Drafted in Last Five Years
2017 – Cordrea Tankersley 3rd
2016 – MacKensie Alexander 2nd
2016 – T.J. Green 2nd
2016 – Jayron Kearse 7th
2014 – Bashard Breeland 4th
What To Know
A true press cornerback with great height and length. Mullen shows natural cover skills. Instinctive and recognizes routes quickly and gets in position to defend the ball or keep it from being thrown to his man. He attacks the ball when he sees it but those opportunities seldom arose. Smart and played with in the Tigers’ scheme. Best in press coverage. Mullen can develop into a top tier defensive back with size to play a variety of roles in the secondary.

  • Rock Ya-Sin, Temple, Sr, 6’2 190

Last Five Secondary Players Drafted in Last Five Years
2017 – Nate Hairston 5th
2016 – Tavon Young 4th
What To Know
Ya-Sin may not be a day one defensive back but long-term feel he is going to be a satisfying pick for one NFL team. He passes the eyeball test with his size and then when you watch him play the positive traits begin to emerge one after the next. Ya-Sin plays quick and waste little motion in transition or when taking an angle on the ball. It is one of his best abilities to diagnose and react in an instant. Relishes in contact and has the speed to play in the National Football League. A little better technique, but his tenacity and aggressive make him hard to pass on (no pun intended).

  • DeAndre Baker, Georgia, Sr, 5’11 185

Last Five Secondary Players Drafted in Last Five Years
2015 – Damain Swann 5th
What To Know
Reminds me a bit of former long-time Minnesota Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield. Winfield was effective in press coverage and loved to find the football in run support. Baker is fluid opening his hips and shows good awareness in coverage and reading the quarterback. Intelligence and instincts make him suited to be one of the top cornerbacks selected in the NFL Draft.

  • Julian Love, Notre Dame, Jr, 5’11 193

Last Five Secondary Players Drafted in Last Five Years
2016 – KeiVarae Russell 3rd
2014 – Bennett Jackson 6th
What To Know
Love shows awareness in zone coverage and can stick his man in a short area. Possesses quick feet and solid cover skills when it’s in front of him. While lacking great size, Love is not afraid and sort of relishes in the idea of attacking the football via the ground. Should excel in nickel-and dime coverage schemes in the National Football League. Love is crafty and creative in maximizing his abilities to be a very solid defensive back.

Last Five Secondary Players Drafted in Last Five Years

11.JoeJuan Williams, Vanderbilt, Jr, 6’3 208
Last Five Secondary Players Drafted in Last Five Years
2014 – Andre Hal 7th
What To Know
Immediately intimidating with his enormous frame and despite his unusual size moves very smoothly. If his technique can be refined, he has the athleticism and natural cover skills to really peak in the National Football League. Williams knows how to use his size in the run game and will not think twice about making a jarring hit. Overall, a solid press corner to battle receivers at the next level.

Top Free/Strong Safety

1.Deionte Thompson, Alabama, Jr, 6’2 196 FS
Last Five Secondary Players Drafted in Last Five Years
2018 – Minkah Fitzpatrick 1st
2018 – Ronnie Harrison 3rd
2018 – Anthony Averett 4th
2017 – Marlon Humphrey 1st
2017 – Eddie Jackson 4th
What To Know
Pro-typical size desired by NFL teams, Thompson is from a football factory known for high-profile defenders entering the NFL Draft. The history of safeties under Nick Saban’s watch at Alabama is impressive and Thompson is next up. He can knock receivers off their routes at the line of scrimmage. Thompson shows good concentration tracking the football. Knows how to support the run quickly and deliver a lingering hit. Solid first-day pick.

2. Nasir Adderley, Delaware, Sr, 6’0 200 FS
Last Five Secondary Players Drafted in Last Five Years
What To Know
Every year a small school prospect sort of takes flight into the upper echelon of the first-round and Adderley has the potential to sneak into that destination. NFL bloodlines run in his veins, his grandfather’s cousin (Herb Adderley) a Hall of Fame cornerback played for the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys. Nasir provides the instincts of a cornerback at the safety position. Plays fast and can burst out of his breaks and can run with receivers’ stride for stride. Has the combination of speed, ball skills and cover ability to sneak int the first-round.

2017 – Kevin King 2nd
2017 – Sidney Jones 2nd
2015 – Marcus Peters 1st
2013 – Desmond Trufant 1st
What To Know
Rapp is another prospect who lacks are the ‘wow’ individual characteristics but collectively he is one hell of a safety. His attention to detail in technique and anticipation places him amongst the top safeties in the draft class. Very productive and shows up in all phases of the defense. He can cover, tackle and blitz the quarterback with success. A bit of an overachiever type with upside.

7. Johnathan Abram, Mississippi State, Sr, 6’0 215 SS
Last Five Secondary Players Drafted in Last Five Years
2016 – Will Redmond 3rd
What To Know
Great size. Abram is aggressive in run support. He plays tough and physical. Great competitor. Square up tackler who packs a punch at the point of attack. Early prognosis on Abram is he would fit best in a scheme as a down safety. He is by far one of the real thumpers in this safety draft class. Incorporates into the passing game adequate enough where he is not a liability.
